The intrepid author went native so we don't have to! Sour camel milk is not for Western stomachs, it turns out.I read this in prep for a soft escorted tour through the five Stans (canceled, of course, due to coronavirus plague). I wouldn't have the patience to do what the author did, but it is great background for any contemplated trip to this region. Nice entertainment, but somewhat shallow. For someone who knows the region and its history, at least, some parts of seem made up. I wouldn't recommend it.
